Problem

Regular exercise has long been recognized as a vital component for enhancing your overall well-being. Despite the abundance of resources available today, such as YouTube, TikTok, fitness apps, and more, many individuals struggle to maintain consistency and fail to reap the full benefits of physical activity.

Goal

Gain a comprehensive understanding of people's goals, preferences, needs, and the challenges they encounter along their fitness journey. By delving into these aspects, we can identify key insights and develop tailored solutions that not only help individuals initiate their fitness endeavors but also provide the necessary support to sustain their progress over time.

Competitor Analysis

Who’s our target audience and what are the current fitness trends?

Goals:

  • Spotting industry trends to stay informed of the fitness industry

  • Identifying competitor audiences to identify potential users for our product

  • Identifying unmet needs to better tailor customer needs

Key Takeaways:

  • Common roadblocks are time, money, and uncertainty about the most suitable fitness regimen.

  • Common goals and motivations are to improve appearance, feel energized, and improve overall health and well-being.

  • 4/6 participants liked the idea of a personal trainer due to the personalization but due to money and time, they prefer to figure out a routine themselves using various online sources.

  • Fitness apps can be confusing and overwhelming. It depends on a person’s level of expertise to be beneficial for them.

Opportunity:

Instead of a virtual trainer, how about an on-demand professional trainer who can give real-time feedback and support while providing tailored digital fitness content for users?

User Research

6 individuals were interviewed to identify motivations, needs, goals, and pain points in their fitness journey.

Key Takeaways:

Opportunity:

  • Cost-effective personalization that offers time-efficient workouts along with a feature that would track progression for motivation

What I learned…

Design Process

Being that this is my first end-to end project, I learned the entire lifecycle of the design process. The process isn’t linear as it may seem on this case study. The reality of the design process is very iterative, going back and improving along the way. There is still a lot of improvements I could make.

Accessibility

When coming up with a color palette and the right typography, I’m aware that usability also means taking account of color contrast, readability, information architecture, and consistency
